Start your bike trip to Karlstejn from the Praha Bike office in the center of Prague. We’ll provide detailed Self-Guided Bike Tour directions and navigation for your smartphone, with clear instructions to easily get out of the city using a combination of quiet streets and bike paths and reach the main bike path in about 15 minutes.
We’ll also provide a phone holder for the bike, a bike, water on the bike, a lock, a helmet, and a return train ticket.
The cycling to the castle takes about 3–4 hours on mostly flat terrain. Along the way, you’ll pass through local villages, with stops for sightseeing, refreshments, or lunch at a traditional Czech restaurant. Upon arrival in Karlstejn Village, you can lock your bike in a designated parking area or anywhere in the village, then walk 15 minutes (1.2 km) up to the castle grounds to explore the exteriors, courtyard, and enjoy breathtaking views.
If time allows, you can also take the interior castle tour (55 minutes; Adults: 330 CZK, Children/Students/Seniors: 180 CZK).
Return to Prague by train with your bike — trains depart approximately every 30 minutes, and the journey takes 45 minutes. The trip must end at the Praha Bike office by 17:45.
We recommend starting your ride no later than 10:30 AM.
Note: Both regular and electric bikes are allowed. E-bikes don’t make the trip faster, but definitely easier!

We did a self guided e-bike tour which was great. It cost 1800 czk (£60) for 6 hours. This included a free app where you could select a tour and put your phone in a waterproof phone holder on the bike then follow the tour.The team at the shop were extremely helpful, ensuring we had the best bikes for ourselves, that we chose the best tour for what we wanted and that we understood properly how to follow the tour. The tours have been produced in great detail to ensure you pass by all the best parts on cycle friendly tracks and roads.E-bikes were a great choice for seeing the city and surroundings. The parks with views of the river and city were probably the highlight.Can’t recommend enough!

Covered a ton of awesome sights on this tour. You get stunning views, see a ton of sights and lots of historical and political context. I chose a regular bike (instead of an e-bike) and it was a bit hilly - hence the awesome views! But it was definitely doable, there were plenty of breaks while the guide tells you about what you’re seeing. Definitely plan for a beer after the tour, you will have earned it!

Even though we had already explored the city a little our tour guide provided excellent information and easily missed points about landmarks throughout the city. Also providing great viewpoints that are hidden away for special views of the Charles Bridge and the castle. Never felt rushed by our guide and was provided ample time to explore and take pictures at each place we stopped. Would highly recommend for folk of all abilities + interests.
